Princeton Tigers offensive lineman Mason Darrow has come out as gay in a profile on

Darrow first told a teammate in November of 2013 about his sexual orientation. Eventually, the whole team found out, but Darrow did not tell coaches until this summer, when he wanted to go public.

Darrow is now the only openly gay player in Division I college football. Chip Sarafin, a backup offensive lineman for Arizona State, came out as gay in August 2014, but has since graduated.

“Here at Princeton, if we can't handle this and say, 'we're supportive of everybody no matter what their background, religion, race or sexual orientation,' then we don't have the right guys in the locker room,” head coach Bob Surace said. “We're going to support Mason 100%.”
