Virginia Tech will start quarterback Brenden Motley for the second straight game after losing Michael Brewer to injury in their season-opening loss to Ohio State. The Hokies (1–1) will continue to rely upon starting wideouts Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips, who have led the way with 228 yards and three scores across the team’s first two games. Motley has completed 61% of his passes this season.

Purdue is 1–1 and coming off a 38–14 win over Indiana State. Austin Appleby became the first quarterback in school history with at least three touchdowns of 50 or more yards since 1997. D.J. Knox and Markell Jones have combined for more than 300 yards across the first two games.
