Two West Virginia players dismissed after being stabbed
Two West Virginia Mountaineers football players have been dismissed from the program after they were stabbed early Sunday morning, the team announced Monday.
Running back Kenyatta Greene and defensive lineman Tyree Owens, both redshirt freshmen, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Morgantown police. They were stabbed, along with a 20-year-old man named Jamal Calay not affiliated with the program, about five hours after the Mountaineers’ win over Liberty on Saturday.
The school said the players were dismissed for violating team rules.
Devin Colston was arrested on felony charges for the stabbing after police received a tip he may have been involved, according to The Dominion Post. Colston, 22, is senior basketball player at Division-II Alderson Broaddus University, about 40 miles from WVU.
“We are appreciative of the efforts of the Morgantown Police Department, and thankful that those identified will make a full recovery,” head coach Dana Holgorsen said in a statement, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette.
