Florida head coach Jim McElwain has tabbed redshirt freshman quarterback Will Grier as his team’s starter this Saturday’s SEC play opener against Kentucky, the team announced Thursday.

Grier made his first career start against the East Carolina Pirates after splitting snaps with sophomore Treon Harris in the Gators’ season-opening 61–13 win against New Mexico State. Grier went 10 for 17 passing for 151 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in last weekend's 31–24 victory over East Carolina.

In the Gators’ season opener against Texas A&M, Grier was 16 of 18 for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

Coming out of high school in Davidson, N.C., Grier was rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, as well as the No. 46 overall player in the class of 2013.

He was named Mr. Football USA as a senior.
