The junior experienced knee pain throughout the majority of the 2014–15 season. When the pain persisted despite two procedures this summer, Williams made the decision to undergo microfracture surgery on his knee on Friday, reports Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The surgery means Williams, who averaged 6.7 rebounds per game and was one of the team's strongest defenders last season, will be unable to join the Horned Frogs on the court for all of the 2015–16 season.
Head coach Trent Johnson acknowledged that the decision was not easy for Williams.
“Believe me, he struggled with it because he's such a team guy,” Johnson said.
TCU returns junior forwards Karviar Shepherd, who averaged 5.7 rebounds last season, and Chris Washburn, who averaged 5.8.
