Following two high-scoring wins and open date to open the season, Baylor will seek another when it hosts Rice on Saturday at McLane Stadium.

Before having last weekend off, Baylor defeated Lamar 66–31 on Sept. 12. Quarterback Seth Russell completed 23 of 34 passes for 342 yards and four touchdowns, but did throw three interceptions. The Bears also rushed for 412 yards, with three running backs—Shock Linwood, Johnny Jefferson and Terrence Williams—all rushing for more than 100. Linwood added three touchdowns; Russell also connected with wide receiver Corey Coleman on six passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns.

Rice enters the weekend 2–1 after defeating North Texas on the road 38–24. Quarterback Driphus Jackson completed 29 of 39 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns, syncing up with wide receiver Dennis Parks on eight passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
