Southern's Gales undergoes successful surgery

(STATS) - Southern wide receiver Devon Gales underwent successful spinal surgery Sunday afternoon.

Southern announced after Saturday's 48-6 loss at No. 8 Georgia that Gales suffered a spinal injury in the game and was admitted to Athens Regional hospital.

The school announced that Gales suffered several fractures in his neck that were stabilized. Gales continues to have movement in his upper body, was in good spirits and will remain in Athens before being released.
