Northwestern cornerback Matthew Harris left Saturday’s game against Michigan on the back of a cart after an apparent head injury.

Late in the third quarter, Harris took a knee to his head and went down to the turf for several minutes. After being examined by the medical staff of each team, Harris was able to stand up with help and sit down on the back of a cart, which took him to the locker room.

According to the game broadcast, Harris was responsive and taken to the locker room for stitches on his face. The team told the Big Ten Network it was “very optimistic” about Harris’s condition.

Harris entered Saturday with three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Marcus McShephard is listed behind Harris on the Wildcats’ depth chart.
