Kent State blanks UMass in 2nd half, posts a 15-10 win

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) Shane Hynes kicked a pair of field goals, including a 39-yarder in the third quarter that proved to be the game winner, and Kent State shutout Massachusetts in the second half to post a 15-10 win on Saturday.

Jamal Wilson scored from the 5 to start the second quarter, and Logan Laurent converted a 28-yard field goal to give the Minutemen a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter.

George Bollas brought Kent State (3-4, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) right back, driving 65 yards in eight plays and culminating in a 1-yard pass to Charles Chandler to even the score at intermission, 10-10.

The Golden Flashes forced UMass (1-5, 0-2) into four second-half punts, and tackled Blake Frohnapfel in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.

Bollas was 20-of-25 passing for 135 yards while the Golden Flashes ground out 192 yards rushing.
