Last season: 20-14, lost in first NCAA tournament game.

Nickname: Longhorns. Coach: Shaka Smart.

Conference: Big 12.

Key returners: Point guard Isaiah Taylor is the leading returning scorer and opted to return to play for Smart instead of heading the NBA. He will be paired with quick freshman Kerwin Roach. Texas also will have plenty of height: 6-10 Cam Ridley, 6-11 Prince Ibeh and 6-10 Conner Lammert could be joined by 6-8 Shaquille Clear, a Maryland transfer.

Who left: Big man Myles Turner, who averaged 10 points and 2.6 blocks per game.

The Skinny: After 17 years of former coach Rick Barnes' rugged defense, all eyes on how Smart's style will play in the bruising Big 12. Texas hasn't had trouble getting to the NCAA tournament. Smart's job is to take them beyond the first weekend.
