Colgate tops Fordham 31-29 to remain unbeaten in Patriot

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) Jake Melville threw for one touchdown and rushed for two more and Colgate held on to defeat Fordham 31-29 on Saturday when the Rams' two-point conversion failed with no time on the clock in the battle for the Patriot League lead on Saturday.

Melville was 17 of 26 for 241 yards and carried the ball 16 times for 112 yards for the Red Raiders (4-4, 3-0). John Maddaluna had six catches for 111 yards and a TD.

More importantly, the Colgate defense had eight sacks and 12 tackles for loss, bottling up Chase Edmonds a week after he set a Patriot League record with 349 yards. Edmonds finished with 51 yards on 18 carries.

Kevin Anderson completed 34 of 49 for 378 yards and four touchdowns for the Rams (7-2, 3-1), including a 20-yarder to Corey Caddle on the last play of the game after they recovered an onside kick. However, his PAT attempt was deflected by Brett Field.
