North Texas tight end Marcus Smith was taken off the field on a stretcher after running into a wall late in a loss to Louisiana Tech.

Early in the fourth quarter, Smith was the target of a pass in the corner of the endzone that he was unable to catch. His momentum took him into a concrete side wall, and he appeared to hit the wall headfirst. He lay on the ground as trainers attended to him and eventually took him away.

The team’s official account tweeted that it was a lower back injury for Smith and that he was moving around, but was taken away as a precaution.

Smith, a senior, has caught 18 passes for 167 yards this season.

North Texas lost the game 56–13.
