Northwestern’s Vic Law (torn labrum) to undergo surgery, out for season
Northwestern sophomore forward Vic Law will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and miss the upcoming season, the team announced Wednesday.
“We’re certainly disappointed for Vic,” Northwestern head coach Chris Collins said in a press release. “He dedicated himself and made great progress during this offseason, and had a great summer and preseason on the court.
“I have no doubt that his attitude toward recovery and improvement will be relentless and that he will continue to be a tremendous teammate. We expect a full recovery in 4–6 months and Vic remains a foundational piece of our program for the future.”

Law, who originally injured his shoulder over the summer, started 19 games as a freshman and averaged 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. His 44.2% three-point shooting percentage was the fifth best in the Big Ten Conference.
Northwestern will open the season at home on Friday against UMass Lowell. The Wildcats have never advanced to the NCAA tournament.
Northwestern was ranked 69th in SI’s college basketball preseason rankings before Law’s injury.
