Hampton ends season with 42-3 win over Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) David Watford threw for 263 yards and four touchdowns and Hampton finished its season with a 42-3 win over Savannah State on Saturday.

Rayshad Riddick returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown and Brendan Cole had a 32-yard interception return for the Pirates (6-5, 5-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Watford, who completed 17 of 30 passes, connected with Twarn Mixson in the first quarter and hit SeQuan Gooding for 5 in the second. Mixson finished with nine catches for 172 yards.

Cole's return in the third quarter made it 21-0.

John Barron had a short field goal after a fumbled punt return to give the Tigers (1-8, 1-6) their points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

In the final five minutes of the game, Watford found Gooding for 30 yards and Riddick for 10 before Riddick's punt return with six seconds left.

Hampton held Savannah State to 152 yards.
