UNC-Greensboro beats Greensboro 86-69 in season opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) Diante Baldwin had 15 points and five assists to lead UNC-Greensboro to an 86-69 victory over Division III member Greensboro in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Baldwin was 6-of-10 from the floor. Clay Byrd scored 17 points, and Marvin Smith added 15 points with 9-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line. Kayel Locke, a preseason All-Southern Conference pick, added 10 points with six rebounds for the Spartans.

Trevin Miller scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Greensboro. Christopher Corbin and Simeon Howard had 11 points apiece, and Donavan Griffith added 10 for the Pride.

Miller made a layup to pull the Pride to 53-50 midway through the second half. A 10-3 surge stretched UNC-Greensboro's lead to 63-53 and the Spartans led by double digits the rest of the way.
