DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) Guard Jack Gibbs scored 35 points and Davidson held off CentralFlorida 90-85 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.

Last year, the 6-foot Gibbs scored more than 30 twice, becoming the first Davidson player with multiple 30-point games since Stephen Curry in 2008-09. Gibbs scored a career-high 37 shooting 15 of 17 last season.

He wasn't as efficient Saturday night though, shooting 12 for 23 from the field and 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats used a 16-5 run to start the second half and took a 61-60 lead.

Gibbs then proceeded to make two free throws, a layup, a 3-pointer and another layup to make the score 69-63 and Central Florida never led again.

Brian Sullivan and Jordan Barham each had 15 points for the Wildcats.

Adonys Henriquez scored 18 points for Central Florida.
