Charleston Southern beats Johnson & Wales 97-65

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Patrick Wallace and Armel Potter each scored 14 points to lead Charleston Southern to a 97-65 win over Johnson & Wales (NC) Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers (1-2) won their 12th -straight home opener. Despite the win, Johnson and Wales outshot Charleston Southern 41.4 percent to 37.7.

Danny Upchurch's 3-pointer with 5:54 until halftime put Charleston Southern up 27-10 capping a 24-6 run in a 10-minute span. The Buccaneers took a 46-18 lead to the locker room at half.

Charleston Southern scored 42 points from 3 shooting 14 for 41 from beyond the arc.

Ricky Porter scored 25 points for the Wildcats shooting 11 for 17 from the field while grabbing 11 boards. Caleb Mercer added 11 points for Johnson & Wales.

The Wildcats committed 29 fouls and 27 turnovers.
