Wofford beats Maryland-Eastern Shore 71-61

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Spencer Collins scored 21 points and Wofford picked up its first victory with a 71-61 win Saturday over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the Terriers' home opener.

Eric Garcia scored 14 points, including four free throws when Wofford finished the game on a 10-4 run to hold off the Hawks. Fletcher Magee added 12 points and Justin Gordon 10. C.J. Neumann grabbed nine rebounds to lead a 36-22 Wofford advantage on the boards.

Dominique Elliott scored 19 points to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore (0-3).

The Hawks were within 54-53 after consecutive 3-pointers by Ahmad Frost and Bakari Copeland with 6:35 remaining. Wofford had taken a 10-point lead with 8:44 left with an 8-0 run sparked by four points from Gordon.

The Terriers (1-2), after losses to Missouri and No. 1 North Carolina, avoided their first 0-3 start since their first year of Division I basketball in 1995-96.
