McLaughlin, Bryant beat Prairie View A&M 71-58

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) Gus Riley scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, Shane McLaughlin had a career-high 14 assists and Bryant beat Prairie View A&M 71-58 Friday night.

McLaughlin's 14 assists set a program record at the Division I level.

Dan Garvin added 12 points and Hunter Ware 10 for the Bulldogs (2-1), who opened on a 9-2 run and later scored 14 straight on their way to a 43-20 halftime lead.

Bryant's 8-2 run to start the second pushed the lead to 29. Prairie View (0-3) answered with a 20-3 run to get within 55-42 on Tevin Bellinger's 3-pointer with 10:51 left.

Garvin scored back-to-back layups to push the lead back to 59-42 and the Panthers got no closer than 59-48.

Admassu Williams had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Bellinger scored 15 to lead Prairie View.
