Virginia Tech fans chanted “Thank you, Beamer” to honor retiring coach Frank Beamer in his final home game Saturday.

The 69-year-old coach announced he was retiring at the conclusion of this season earlier this month.

Beamer, who is in his 29th season with the Hokies, leads all active Division I coaches with 276 career wins. The coach had throat surgery in December 2014, which forced him to coach from the booth in Virginia Tech’s 33–17 win against Cincinnati in last year’s Military Bowl.

The team is also honoringBeamer with helmet stickers for the rest of the season.

HARRIS: Beamer never lost himself while leading Virginia Tech to big time

The Hokies play at Virginia on Nov. 28 for their final game of the regular season.
