Kent State edges Marist 79-72

KENT, Ohio (AP) Jimmy Hall posted a double-double, scoring 27 points with 10 rebounds, as Kent State edged Marist 79-72 on Saturday night.

Hall posted his career-best 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 9-of-11 shooting from the line for the Golden Flashes (2-1). Kellon Thomas added 16 points. The team averaged 44.8 percent from the field and had a 37-26 rebounding edge over the Red Foxes (1-2).

The Golden Flashes led 36-32 at the break and expanded it to 48-39 on a Hall jumper early in the second half.

Marist went ahead 59-57 on a 10-6 run midway through the second but Kent State battled back to go up 65-63 with 4:10 to play. Galal Cancer sank a 3-pointer to spark a final 8-3 push.

Freshman Brian Parker scored 30 points with seven rebounds for the Red Foxes, and Khallid Hart scored 27 points for the second-straight game.
