Morgan State pulls away from Campbell in 59-54 win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) Kyle Thomas scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Morgan State to its first win of the season with 59-54 victory over Campbell on Saturday.

Clive Vaughan Jr. added 12 points and Phillip Carr grabbed 15 rebounds for Morgan State (1-3), which controlled the boards 41-34 in the first meeting between the programs. Thomas hit 7 of 11 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Morgan State broke away midway through the second half with an 8-0 spurt bookended by a 3-pointer from Vaughan and another by Thomas to make it 46-39. The Bears then protected the lead down the stretch.

Chris Clemons led Campbell (1-2) with 14 points, Troy Harper added 13 points and Curtis Phillips had 12. D.J. Mason grabbed 10 rebounds for the Camels.
