Sam Houston State rolls over Central Arkansas 42-13

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) Jared Johnson threw two touchdowns as Sam Houston State rolled over Central Arkansas 42-13 in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday night.

Johnson was 15 of 30 for 279 yards for the Bearkats (8-3, 7-2 Southland Conference) who advance to the FCS playoffs. Corey Avery carried 13 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Jalen Overstreet also had two scores and ran for 75 yards.

Overstreet ran for a 13-yard touchdown early in the first quarter and Avery ran for another and the Bearkats led 14-6 with 2:39 left in the period. Sam Houston scored three more times in the second quarter, including a 50-yard touchdown throw to Gerald Thomas and a 3-yard scoring toss to LaDarius Brown for a 35-6 advantage at the break.

Jace Denker kicked a pair of first-quarter field goals for the Bears (7-4, 7-2). Hayden Hildebrand threw for 189 yards and a score.
