LSU coach Les Miles addresses job status at Monday press conference
Amid rumors of his impending dismissal, LSU Tigers coach Les Miles addressed his job status at his Monday press conference.
Miles has been the subject of multiple reports stating the school is ready to part ways with the coach, who has been with LSU since 2005. The Tigers are currently 7–3, coming off a 38–17 loss to Ole Miss. The loss was LSU’s third straight—the Tigers’ first three-game losing streak since 1999.
“[The media] had me in a job not long ago too,” Miles said about the reports of his firing, referencing a reported move to Michigan in 2007.
Miles said he didn't want to speculate about his job status.
“I don't want to go there,” Miles continued when asked if he would like to be involved in discussions about his future. “I would be not doing my job as the head coach at LSU. What is the future to me is after the Texas A&M game. I'm not going to find myself watching TV or reading papers, or doing anything but preparing gameplans, looking at the advantages that we can have, and seeing how we can exploit them to victory.
“I'm going to go on to work ... at some point in time there's a me in this, not while I'm coaching. This will always be about our players and the team.”
When asked if he discussed the rumors about his job status with administrators, Miles said the only information he had was, “Do your job as you would do it ... I think I've been [coaching for my job] for 11 years.” Miles also said he was not considering retirement.
The Tigers face the Aggies at home to finish the regular season on Saturday. For the second straight season and only the fourth time in Miles’s tenure, the team will not win 10 games.
