Fresno State will not retain offensive coordinator Dave Schramm
Fresno State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dave Schramm has been informed that he will not return next season, according to a source.
Schramm, however, will still coach in Saturday’s regular-season home finale vs. Colorado State. It’s been a struggle this season for the injury-plagued Bulldogs (3–8, 2–5 Mountain West) under fourth-year coach Tim DeRuyter.
This year will mark the first time Fresno State has not at least won a share of the Mountain West title or played in the league’s championship game during DeRuyter’s tenure. His team is seventh-to-last this season in the FBS in total offense (307.6 yards per game) and 108th nationally in scoring offense (21.5 points per game).
The Bulldogs have started three different quarterbacks, losing two of them to season-ending injuries (Chason Virgil and Ford Childress). They are 108th in the FBS in passing offense (178 yards per game).

Schramm, 52, came to Fresno State with DeRuyter in 2012. He had previously been an assistant at Utah for seven seasons, which included one as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2009) before being demoted.
In Schramm’s first two seasons at Fresno State with now Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, the Bulldogs were among the nation’s best offensively. But they slid significantly without Carr last season and have fallen even further this season.
