Illinois State pulls away from Quincy in 73-63 win

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell scored 18 points, Paris Lee added 14 more and Illinois State pulled away late in the second half for a 73-63 win over Quincy on Friday.

Deontae Hawkins contributed 12 points and Tony Wills had 11 for Illinois State (3-4), which hit 8 of 16 from long range to snap a two-game skid. Hawkins and Wills also pulled down seven rebounds apiece.

Quincy, a Division II program held to just 32 percent shooting from the floor, pulled to within a point of Illinois State late in the second half on Joseph Tagarelli's basket with 4:40 left, but went scoreless the rest of the way. Illinois State scored nine straight points, clinching the win at the free throw line.

Tagarelli finished with 12 points, Herm Senor II added 11 points and Godson Eneogwe had 10. Evan McGaughey grabbed 12 rebounds for Quincy.
