Gardner-Webb pulls away late, beats SE Louisiana 77-68

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) Tyrell Nelson scored 11 points with back-to-back layups late to help Gardner-Webb pull away and beat Southeastern Louisiana 77-68 at the Barclay's Center Classic on Friday night.

Isaiah Ivey had 21 points with five 3-pointers to lead Gardner-Webb (2-4). Harold McBride added 10 points with seven assists and four steals.

Keith Charleston scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 10 rebounds for Southeastern Louisiana (1-5). James Currington had 10 points and five assists.

Gardner-Webb led 49-43 early in the second half. Joshua Filmore made a 3-pointer to spark a 7-0 surge to give the Lions a 1-point lead. The game stayed within three points until Nelson made two layups and Ivey hit a 3-pointer as the Bulldogs led 69-64 with two minutes left.

Currington then made a layup. David Efianayi answered with another layup and four free throws, and McBride made two more free throws to seal it.
