Evansville beats UC Irvine 75-56 for 5th at Wooden Legacy

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Egidijus Mockevicius had 21 points and 16 rebounds and Evansville beat UC Irvine 75-56 in the fifth-place game of the Wooden Legacy on Sunday.

D.J. Balentine and Blake Simmons added 15 points apiece for Evansville (5-1). Adam Wing chipped in nine points with five assists and a career-high 10 rebounds for the Purple Aces.

Jaron Martin scored 15 points and Ioannis Dimakopoulos had 12 to lead UC Irvine (5-2).

The Anteaters had a 31-27 halftime lead and it was tied at 37 with 13 minutes left. Mockevicius and Simmons made back-to-back layups to spark a 23-12 run and give the Purple Aces a 60-49 lead with six minutes to play. Mockevicius scored 10 points and Simmons added five during the stretch.

The Anteaters made their last field goal at the 7:11 mark, and finished shooting 7 of 11 from the line and 0 of 10 from the field.
