Rutgersnamed Patrick Hobbs its new athletic director Sunday.

The Hobbs announcement came in the same letter announcing the dismissal of former athletic director Julie Hermann and football coach Kyle Flood. Hobbs is a dean emeritus at the Seton Hall School of Law, and will help conduct the search for Flood’s replacement.

“The search for a new Head Football Coach will begin immediately and will be led by Pat Hobbs, with input from [board members] Greg Brown, Ken Schmidt, and me,” president Robert Barchi said in a statement. “We all believe that Rutgers football can be competitive in the Big Ten Conference and we will find the right coach who can get us to that place.”

Rutgers finished 4–8 in its second season under Flood. The coach was suspended and fined earlier this season after making improper contact with a professor regarding a player’s eligibility status.
