Illinois center Mike Thorne Jr. will be out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus, the school announced Monday.

CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb reported earlier Monday that Thorne was “likely out for the year,” but Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that Thorne “still could return this season.”

Thorne, a graduate transfer from Charlotte, has started all seven of the Illini’s games this season and is third on the team with 13.4 points per game. He is averaging a team-high 8.4 rebounds rebounds per game and has blocked five shots.

Illinois is 3–4 this season and faces Notre Dame in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at home on Wednesday.
