Hallett has spent the last nine seasons in charge at NCAA Division III Heidelberg, where he had a 55–36 record. Before that, he spent the final three of his eight seasons at Thomas More College in Kentucky as head coach and compiled a 15–15 record.

Hallett has also coached at Ohio’s Orrville High, Coventry High and Wooster High. He played football at Mount Union, where he graduated in 1994.

Candle had been Toledo’s offensive coordinator for the past four seasons and with the Rockets since 2009. He succeeds Matt Campbell, who became Iowa State’s head coach last week.

Campbell had a 35–15 record in four seasons at Toledo, including a 9–2 mark this season.
