Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College coach Ryan Held is joining the staff of new UCF coach Scott Frost, according to sources.

Held and Frost played together at Nebraska from 1995–96. Held was also an undergraduate assistant coach in 1997 when Frost quarterbacked the Cornhuskers to a co-national championship as a senior.

This season was Held’s second as coach of Northeastern Oklahoma. He had a 9–11 record at the perennial junior college powerhouse.

Before that, Held was coach at Highland (Kan.) Community College for two seasons and spent 2011 as offensive coordinator at Butler Community College in Kansas. He was coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State from 2005–08 and prior to that coach of Oklahoma Panhandle State for three seasons.

He was also coach at Peru State in Nebraska in 2001 after being a defensive graduate assistant at Tennessee from 1998–99. A Kansas City product, he played for Nebraska from 1993–96.

Central Florida had an 0–12 record this season, which included an 0–8 mark under former coach George O’Leary, who retired in late October. Frost was hired earlier this week after spending the past seven seasons as an assistant at Oregon, including the last three as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
