No. 12 Baylor down to 4th QB after Chris Johnson hurt

WACO, Texas (AP) Baylor's big-play offense is on its fourth quarterback, a junior receiver who last called signals his junior year in high school.

Lynx Hawthorne was pressed into action when Chris Johnson took a hard hit and fumbled on a run with about 2 minutes left in the first quarter of Saturday's regular-season finale for the No. 12 Bears against Texas.

Baylor said at halftime that Johnson had concussion-like symptoms and would not return.

Johnson was starting his second game since replacing freshman Jarrett Stidham, who broke a bone in his ankle in his third start. Junior Seth Russell was the top-rated FBS passer when he suffered a season-ending neck injury Oct. 24.

Baylor entered the game with the nation's top offense at 616 yards and 51 points a game.

The Bears trailed 20-0 at halftime, making it five consecutive quarters in regulation without a score. Hawthorne was 4 of 13 for 22 yards with two interceptions.
