San Francisco fends off stubborn Cal State Northridge 65-61

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Tim Derksen scored 17 points, and Montray Clemons sank two free throws that secured San Francisco's 65-61 win over Cal State Northridge on Monday night.

Devin Watson scored 14 points and Uche Ofoegbu added 11 with nine rebounds for the Dons (5-4), who rebounded from one of their worst defeats - a 32-point loss at Montana on Friday.

San Francisco built a series of eight-point leads only to see them vanish.

The Matadors (2-7), playing USF for the first time, lost their fifth-straight game. Freshman Tavrion Dawson scored a season-high 19 points with 11 rebounds for his first double-double. Dawson swept in for a layup and was fouled, converting the 3-point play that cut the USF lead to 63-61 with 15 seconds left.

But when the Matadors fouled to get the ball back, Clemons put the game out of reach with two free throws.
