Fordham holds on to beat LIU Brooklyn 89-84 in OT

NEW YORK (AP) Joseph Chartouny drove for a layup and Mandell Thomas, who finished with 28 points, followed with a 3-point jumper to start the extra period as Fordham held on to beat LIU Brooklyn in overtime 89-84 on Tuesday night.

Jon Severe was 10 of 15 from the floor for 26 points. Chartouny added 16 while grabbing 10 rebounds for Fordham (7-1), which has won seven straight. The last time Fordham opened a season at 7-1 was 1971-72.

LIU Brooklyn's Jerome Frink, who finished with 30 points, nailed a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left in regulation to tie at 72 and force overtime.

Chartouny and Thomas got the Rams rolling and they never trailed in the extra period.

Aakim Saintil was 7 of 13 from the floor for 23 points and Martin Hermannsson added 15 for the Blackbirds (4-3).
