Denver pulls away from San Diego, 59-48

SAN DIEGO (AP) Nate Engesser scored 12 points, Jake Holtzmann added 11 points, and Denver beat San Diego 59-48 on Wednesday night.

Joe Rosga had nine points and five rebounds for the Pioneers (6-3), who have won six of their last eight games. Christian Mackey chipped in nine points.

Denver held the Toreros (3-6) to just 31.6 percent from the field and a paltry 4 of 25 from behind the arc.

The Pioneers had a 9-0 run in the first half and led 25-19 at the break. Daniel Amigo hit a jumper off an assist by Engesser to give Denver its largest lead of the game, 41-29, with 10:55 remaining.

Vasa Pusica made a jumper to pull San Diego to 52-44 with 3:19 left, but the Toreros did not get closer.

Pusica and Brett Bailey scored 11 points apiece for San Diego.
