(STATS) - Cal Poly football will kick off a challenging 2016 season at Nevada and play five home games as part of its 11-game schedule announced Thursday.

The Sept. 3 visit to Nevada will mark the sixth straight year Cal Poly plays an FBS opponent.

Eight of the Mustangs' 10 FCS opponents had winning records this season, including its two in non-conference action. The Big Sky Conference team will play its home opener against Pioneer Football League co-champion San Diego on Sept. 10 and visit Missouri Valley Football Conference power South Dakota State on Sept. 17.

Cal Poly will play five games at Alex G. Spanos Stadium, opening its Big Sky schedule by hosting Montana on Sept. 24.

"It's another challenging schedule," Cal Poly coach Tim Walsh said. "Once again we have 11 Division I games. We have chosen not to play Division II schools because we feel that playing only Division I teams is best in the development of our program."
