Cal State Bakersfield pulls away from South Dakota 77-67

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) Dedrick Basile scored a career-high 20 points and Cal State Bakersfield pulled away down the stretch to defeat South Dakota 77-67 on Saturday night.

Aly Ahmed added 16 points and Kevin Mays 13 and both had eight rebounds for the Roadrunners (5-3), who outrebounded the Coyotes 36-20.

Eric Robertson had a career-high 17 points and Tre Burnette 14 points for South Dakota (6-4), which had its five game winning streak snapped.

Ahmed started a key 12-2 run by making two free throws after he was intentionally fouled and Matt Smith tied the game at 56 on the ensuing possession. After Robertson scored, the Roadrunners scored eight straight, the last four by Ahmed.

Bakersfield won its first road game by making seven of eight foul shots in the final minute of a game that had 10 ties and 16 lead changes.

Basile had 13 points and the Roadrunners shot 60 percent for a 39-36 lead at the half.
