Five-star guard Andrew Jones commits to Texas

Jones was in attendance as the Longhorns defeated No. 3 ranked North Carolina over the weekend.

Five-star point guard Andrew Jones (Irving MacArthur, Texas) has verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns, reports Evan Daniels of Scout.com.

“Over the past couple months, since the end of July, I’ve built a strong relationship with coach [Shaka] Smart,” Jones told Scout.com. “It was to the point where we were texting every morning. He was sending me motivational quotes about how to be a leader and how to stay positive.”

Jones was in attendance as the Longhorns defeated No. 3 ranked North Carolina at the Erwin Center over the weekend.

Jones is the No. 7 ranked point guard and No. 28 player overall in Scout.com's Class of 2016 rankings. Shaka Smart’s recruiting class already includes Top 100 recruits James Banks and Jacob Young.

Arizona, Baylor, Louisville, Texas A&M were also in the running for Jones before he elected to stay closer to home.
