UAB rolls over South Carolina Upstate 96-54

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Dirk Williams scored a career-best 22 points as UAB rolled over South Carolina Upstate 96-54 on Wednesday night.

Williams finished with 9-of-11 shooting from the field including four 3-pointers for the Blazers (7-3). Chris Cokley added 17 points, William Lee had 11 points and Tosin Mehinti had 10. The team averaged 54.3 percent shooting from the field, 66.7 percent from the line and had a 47-26 rebounding edge over the Spartans (3-10).

A tip shot by Williams early in the first half sparked a 10-0 surge that brought the Blazers from a seven-point deficit to an 18-15 lead with 12:13 to go before halftime.

Mehinti and Williams made back-to-back dunks as UAB went 26-8 to start the second half for a 65-39 advantage with 10:52 to play and the Blazers cruised to the win.

Michael Buchanan led the Spartans with 16 points and six rebounds.
