Vermont guard Dre Wills was suspended eight games for reselling textbooks, the school announced on Wednesday.

A statement from the school said that Wills is suspended for “the re-sale of academic books that was not permitted as part of his athletic scholarship,” according to the Burlington Free Press. Selling textbooks is a violation of UVM’s student-athlete code of conduct and NCAA rules. Wills will have to pay back an unspecified amount of money for reselling the textbooks and must perform community service.

Wills has already sat out three games for the suspension, which was previously undisclosed. He is eligible to return to the court on Jan. 18 when the Catamounts host UMass-Lowell.

In the statement, Wills offered an apology to his teammates, coaches and the Vermont athletic community.

The junior is averaging 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. Wills also missed UVM’s first five games of the season with a hamstring injury.

UVM (6–7) plays Siena on Tuesday at home.
