Blacklock has been at Houston since June 2013 and came to the Cougars after two seasons as the head coach at his alma mater, Sharpstown High in Houston. He was one of the city’s most respected high school coaches, going 16–7 at Sharpstown with playoff berths in both seasons. Blacklock sent 19 players from Sharpstown to play football at the collegiate level, and his ’12 team went undefeated in district competition.
Before becoming the head coach at Sharpstown, Blacklock spent two years as an assistant there and one year as an assistant at Fort Bend Marshall High.
A Houston native, he played defensive back at McPherson College and was named NAIA second-team All-America as a senior.
Blacklock joins the staff of new Texas Southern head coach Mike Haywood, who was hired in early December. Haywood replaces Darrell Asberry, who resigned after a 3–7 campaign in 2015. Asberry went 12–31 over his four seasons with the Tigers.
