Notre Dame S Max Redfield sent home after violating team rules

Notre Dame will play Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have sent home safety Max Redfield due to a violation of team rules, head coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday.

Redfield has recorded 64 tackles for the third most on the team.

Notre Dame will play Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day. Redfield was expected to be paired with Elijah Shumate to help shut down wide receivers alin Marshall and Braxton Miller.

Notre Dame will also be without cornerback Devin Butler after he broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot at practice Monday.
