Loyola (Md) beats American University 75-67

BALTIMORE (AP) Tyler Hubbard scored 18 points and made all 10 of his free throws to help Loyola (Md) beat American University 75-67 Wednesday night in a Patriot League opener.

Eric Laster was 4 for 4 from long distance and scored 17 points, Andre Walker added 11, and the Greyhounds (2-10, 1-0) made 27 of 31 free throws (87 percent) and 8 of 13 -3-pointers.

Loyola expanded its five-point halftime lead to 11 points after Jarred Jones' two free throws at 7:56 in the second half.

The Eagles pulled within 59-54 after Jesse Reed's 3-point play, but Loyola pulled away on Laster's 3-pointer and led 68-59 with 49 seconds left.

Reed scored eight straight points in the final 31 seconds, but Loyola stayed ahead with free throws from Laster and Hubbard.

Reed had 20 points, Paris Maragkos had a career-high 17 and Delante Jones 11 for the Eagles (2-10, 0-1).
