Akron beats South Carolina State 78-68

AKRON, Ohio (AP) Isaiah Johnson made 14 of 16 foul shots and finished with a career-high 24 points in Akron's 78-68 victory over South Carolina State on Wednesday night.

The Zips (10-2) went through the second half unthreatened on their way to a seventh-straight win.

Johnson was 5 of 7 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Antino Jackson had 11 points while Kwan Cheatham Jr. and Aaron Jackson added 10 points each.

South Carolina State (5-10) never led but cut the deficit to one point seven times in the first half. Akron pulled away with a 17-7 run late in the first and led by no less than nine in the second half.

The Bulldogs had Daryll Palmer lead with 20 points, Eric Eaves and Gabe McCray added 16 points, and Ed Stephens scored 10.
