Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch announced his plans to enter the 2016 NFL draft during a press conference Thursday.

Lynch called it the “best decision” for him and his family. He also announced agent Leigh Steinberg will represent him as a pro. On Twitter, Steinberg immediately began making the case for Lynch as the No. 1 pick in the draft.

The junior has thrown for 3,778 yards, 28 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season. Over the course of his collegiate career, Lynch has accumulated 8,865 passing yards, 59 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Led by Lynch, the Tigers finished with a 9–4 record this season. Memphis came up short in the Birmingham Bowl on Wednesday, falling to Auburn 31–10. Lynch completed only 17 of 38 passes for 104 yards and one interception.
