Santa Clara beats Portland 84-77 to snap 4-game skid

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) KJ Feagin scored 25 points, Jared Brownridge added 23 and Santa Clara beat Portland 84-77 on Saturday to snap a four-game skid.

Matt Hauser chipped in 10 points for Santa Clara (5-11, 1-3 West Coast Conference), which bounced back after a 79-77 loss to visiting Gonzaga Dec. 31. Nate Kratch had 14 rebounds and chipped in four points. Feagin and Brownridge combined for 26-of-27 shooting from the line.

Bryce Pressley scored 23 points to lead Portland (8-9, 2-2). Alec Wintering added 16 points.

Wintering made a 3-pointer to give the Pilots their last lead, 61-60 with eight minutes remaining. Santa Clara answered with a 10-3 spurt to take a 70-64 lead. D'Marques Tyson added another 3 to pull the Pilots to 70-67 with three minutes left before the Broncos made 14 of 15 free throws to seal it.
