SC Upstate edges UMKC 70-68

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Mike Cunningham scored 18 points, including a 3-pointer late, to help S.C. Upstate knock off Missouri-Kansas City 70-68 on Saturday.

UMKC led 68-65 after a pair of Dashawn King free throws with 2:55 to go - but didn't score again. Upstate's Deion Holmes made a pair at the line, then after a turnover Cunningham drilled a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining.

The Kangaroos had one more chance, but Darius Austin missed inside and Jacob Schulte grabbed the rebound for the Spartans to seal it.

Cunningham was 6 of 9 from the floor with four 3-pointers for Upstate (5-11). Holmes and Michael Buchanan finished with 12 points apiece and Josh Cuthbertson added 11.

Martez Harrison led UMKC (7-8) with 21 points, five boards, six assists and three steals. King had 15 points and four steals.
