Georgetown's hot shooting leads to 80-70 win over Marquette

WASHINGTON (AP) Marcus Derrickson scored 16 points, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 15 points and six assists, and Georgetown built a 17-point first-half lead in an 80-70 win over Marquette on Saturday night.

Georgetown (9-5, 2-0 Big East) shot 58 percent before the break en route to the Hoyas' eighth win in 10 games. Derrickson was 5 of 11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds, while Smith-Rivera was perfect on eight free throws.

Tied 11-all, Georgetown used a 15-2 run in less than three minutes to take a 13-point lead. Marquette countered with back-to-back triples from Duane Wilson and Henry Ellenson, but the Hoyas quickly built their lead back up to double digits where it would stay for most of the game.

Wilson came off the bench to lead the Golden Eagles (10-4, 0-2) with 17 points. Ellenson had 13 points and seven rebounds.
