Nelson's 27 points lift Gardner-Webb past Campbell, 71-68

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) Tyrell Nelson got to the basket for a layup and a dunk and Harold McBride added a pair of free throws as Gardner-Webb took control in the final two minutes to beat Campbell, 71-68 Wednesday night.

D.J. Mason hit the first of two free throws to give Campbell ( 8-7, 2-3 Big South) a four-point lead with 2:28 left, but the Camels could manage only a two Troy Harper free throws the rest of the way.

Nelson shot 10 of 12 from the field and finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds, 10 off the offensive glass, in a game that was tied10 times and saw 28 lead changes. He was the lone Bulldog to reach double-figure scoring.

Campbell led by four points early, but the Bulldogs (9-8, 4-1) battled back and went into intermission with a two-point advantage.

Harper finished with 16 points and Shane Whitfield added 15 for Campbell.
